About Us
Church of God (Anderson, Indiana)

ORIGINS:
The Church of God movement began in the mid-western United States around
1880 as a reforming response to the ridged sectarianism, which had evolved
within American Protestantism. Drawing upon an Anta-baptist heritage, the
Movement blended Wesleyan-Arminian theology with “free church” function.
One of its early leaders, D.S. Warner, became the editor of the Gospel Trumpet
which gave cohesiveness to its fellowship.

BASIC BELIEFS:
The movement is a conservative, evangelical fellowship. United in emphasizing
the orthodox fundamentals of Christianity. We believe the bible to be God’s
inspired and infallible Word in all matters of faith and practice. We emphasize the
centrality of Jesus Christ, Divine healing of the spirit and body, Sanctification as
a second work of grace, and an amillenial eschatology. A major emphasis has been
the quest for holiness and unity within the historic Christian church.

SACRAMENTS:
The Church of God takes a “symbolic” rather than “sacramental” approach to the
ordinances of Scripture.  We practice three such ordinances: believer’s baptism,
communion, and footwashing.

MEMBERSHIP:
The Church of God is an open fellowship of Believers. There is no formal
membership since the Movement believes in spiritual conversion as the
requirement for membership in God’s one, catholic, apostolic church. Functional
membership within given congregation is achieved through fellowship with that
congregation.

WORSHIP:
As part of the Free Church tradition, the Movement seeks blending of form,
function and freedom in worship. Most congregations use some “order of
worship” without feeling restricted by it.

POLICY:
Local Church of God congregations function autonomously. A dozen colleges,
one graduate seminary, worldwide missionary work, and other administrative
offices at Anderson IN., are supported by voluntary contributions of some 4,000
congregations around the world.

MISSION AND GOALS:
It is the mission of the Church of God Movement to see God’s church invisible
become God’s church visible – to see Believers everywhere united in the mission
of calling persons to Christ and to the life of holiness in Him.

What is Sacramento First Church of God?

The Sacramento First Church of God, although affiliated with a great and
rapidly growing international movement known as the Church of God
movement, is undenominational and non-sectarian.

CREED…
We have rejected denominational creeds in an endeavor to unite all Christians
on the simple New Testament basis of a personal experience in the saving
power of Christ.  Therefore, we have no creed or book of authority in
matters of Christian faith and practice but the Bible.

THE CHURCH…
We hold that the church is essentially one; that it is not an organization, but
a spiritual organism, made up of all true Christians everywhere.  The
Church, in the New Testament sense of the term, does include all true
Christians.

MEMBERSHIP…
Holding as we do, this view of the church, we do not ask people to “join”
our church, nor do we “take in” members, as is common in many Christian
bodies.  Our concern is to lead people to accept Christ and yield their lives
to Him.  When this is done by any person, we believe the Lord adds that one
to the church that Jesus built, and his name is written in heaven.

CHURCH GOVERNMENT…
The Local Church has no High Church group which has jurisdiction over it.
What human organization that is absolutely necessary, for the holding of
property and the directing of material things, is formed and controlled by the
local body.

FELLOWSHIP…
We are ready to fellowship all true believers without raising any barrier of
denominational name, creed, or procedure.  Should you have a request for
prayer or need for counsel, please feel free to call Pastor Troy Eastwood at
455-4650.
